Dry Shampoo: Aerosol vs Powder

This week we briefly touched upon our dry powder shampoos vs aerosol dry shampoos on IG. While we may all have a soft spot for the beautiful colorful big bottles of dry shampoo (us included), the long list of harmful chemicals is just not worth it. Aerosol dry shampoos contain alcohol that can dry your hair, butane and propane both flammable liquids, and fragrance that can cause allergies. These chemicals are harmful to your hair, your health and the environment.

We love using dry shampoo to extend the life of our blow-out or to buy us a couple of days of not washing our hair, but using aerosol dry shampoos 2-3 times per week with long exposure can be toxic. Our lungs can breathe in the chemicals causing allergies or respiratory issues. And our scalp, one of the most absorbent parts of our bodies, can absorb 5-10 times more into our bloodstream. Additionally, aerosols are known to be air polluters that contribute to the destruction of our ozone layer. If you love love aerosol dry shampoos, we recommend limiting exposure by spraying in an open ventilated area and not spraying directly on the scalp. Below is a list of ingredients to avoid.

Using a powder dry shampoo is a great safe alternative to aerosols. Contrary to aerosols, the ingredients of powder dry shampoos are concentrated, meaning that a little goes a long way. Aerosol dry shampoos are often diluted by the added gases. So, if you’ve ever wondered why you’re consistently running out, it is no surprise that it is because you often need to spray more to have it work. On average, Lacora dry shampoo powder last 2x longer than the average aerosol spray. More importantly, Lacora dry shampoo powder consists of natural ingredients including starches and light essential oils. Choose the dry shampoo that is best suitable for your hair color: Stretch It Out for light colored hair and Strength Training for dark colored hair. For best results we recommend applying it to roots with a makeup brush. For added volume, blow dry and style.
